History

Introduction

The advent of IEPSR reverts to 1963 following the enactment of the former National Council. The institute was established as to optimize the current capability and potentiality of Kharazmi University, and to fulfill the research needs of executive organizations (especially Education Ministry), and other governmental and private sectors.

The History of the Establishment

The Institute is one of the oldest research institutes in Iran. Historically, it was used to recruit the lecturers; those were graduated from overseas universities. At the stage of launching, the institute was named "Research Institute and Educational Studies" and in line with executing Clause "d" from Article 2 of Act No 8440, the institute was established with self-governing budgets. In terms of organizational place, the institute was placed under "The Teachers' Training and educational Research Organization" in the former Culture Ministry (by ministering of Dr, Jahanshah Saleh, the Dean of Tehran University at the same time).

Changing the Name of the Institute

There are several reasons to change the name of the institutes. The main reason refers to the changes in the nature of missions and activities. Previously, the IESPR's activities was focused on educating teachers for the ministry of education. Transforming the university into a comprehensive university leaded the new board of management to change the name of the institute as to provide different services for other organizations an institutes. Therefore, the name of the institute was changed to the Institute of Educational, Psychological, and Social Research (IEPSR).
