Center of Excellence for Spatial Analysis of Environmental Hazards

(CESAEH)

The 21^st century has been characterized with hazards and disasters such as soil erosion, urban pollution, drought and the worst of all climate change in different fields of human domain. Almost all of these hazards are the result of human activities and exploitation of the nature. Environmental hazards are now dominant parts of the life and should be considered in every developmental project. Their spatial variation and intensity are far more important for spatial programming and management. Despite the involvement of different organizations in hazards management, there was no scientific center to study their causes and develop programs to mitigate or prevent their occurrences. As a result, the establishment of a center to study and develop a scientific and philosophical foundation for these environmental hazards was inevitable and for this and more other reasons the Center of Excellence for the Spatial Analysis of Environmental Hazards has been established under the permission of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology in 2005 in Kharazmi University.

Potentials and Responsibilities

• Offering consultation in the field of Environmental Hazards.
• Conducting research projects.
• Publishing in the fields of philosophy, foundation, application and modeling Environmental Hazards.
• Developing scientific and operational connections with different organizations at the national and international levels.
• Holding and managing different meetings such as workshops, seminars, congresses and exhibitions.
• Above all, studying and mapping the spatial variations of different hazards in Iran to provide solid foundation for the sustainable development of the country.
• Trying to promote the public awareness about the Environmental Hazards and their management.   

Main Activities

• Sponsoring 19 research projects.
• Publishing more than 200 scientific research papers about Environmental Hazards.
• Publishing the "Encyclopedia of Environmental Hazards"; which consists scientific explanations and descriptions of Environmental Hazards concepts. It is useful for researchers, lecturers and students.
• Publishing the book of "Environmental Hazards". This book presents some scientific articles about important Environmental Hazards. Each article covers materials about
