Research Interests:
Plant systematics and evolution, Biodiversity and Conservation, especially Asteraceae, Fabaceae and Scrophulariaceae, using molecular markers by amplification of appropriate gene regions for phylogenetic, and biogeographic analysis with geographical analysis software.
Research Projects:
1. Molecular phylogeny of Asian Verbascum (Scrophulariaceae), based on DNA sequence data, Kharazmi University, 2012 – 2014
Up to now there has been no phylogenetic study to examine relationships within Verbascum and among related genera in the world. In this study, we will investigate the phylogenetic relationships among Asian Verbascum species, by means of DNA sequence analysis of four phylogenetically informative regions of the nuclear and chloroplast genome.
The name of the donor agency: Iran National Science Foundation (INSF)
Proposal No: 89004532
Principal investigator: Farrokh Ghahremaninejad
Collaborators: Mehrshid Riahi, Faride Attar
2. Collection, identification, molecular and phytochemical evaluation of Artemisia spp. genus from Iran, Iranian Biological Resource Center, 2010 – present
The infrageneric division of genus Artemisia is problematic; we will conduct phylogenetic analyses of the Artemisia subgenus Seriphidium and its closely related subgenera within the genus, by means of DNA sequence analysis of five phylogenetically informative regions of the nuclear and chloroplast genome.

3. Study on Taxonomic, Molecular and Ecological Characteristics of Some Lallemantia spp. (Lamiaceae) and biochemistry of their fruits
In this investigation, we will perform Molecular and Ecological studies on Some Lallemantia spp. (Lamiaceae) and biochemistry of their fruits for clarify phylogenetic relationship among these species.

Collaborators: Mehrshid Riahi, Masoud Naghizade, Faride Attar, Alireza Naghinejad
4. Molecular phylogeny of Asian Pimpinella (Apiaceae), based on DNA sequence data, Kharazmi University, 2015 – present
Up to now there has been no phylogenetic study to examine relationships within Asian Pimpinella and among related genera in the world. In this study, we will investigate the phylogenetic relationships among Asian Pimpinella species, by means of DNA sequence analysis of three phylogenetically informative regions of the nuclear and chloroplast genome.
